Over 800 residents took scheduled test rides on the Boeing Company's Aries jetfoil when it visited Petersburg and other Southeast communities in 1982. The Alaska Department of Transportation considered adding the $15 million craft to its fleet of mainline ferries, but declined to do so despite favorable public opinion.
