Pyrotechnicians detonated cremora mines and lighted diesel smoke pots to simulate explosions and typical fire conditions that emergency responders would experience when responding to an airport emergency. During the drill, one of the ambulances failed to start and a mechanic had to be called in from the city shop to get the vehicle running. The ambulance is 20 years old, according to EMS/Fire volunteer Dave Berg.
