Ron was born on August 4, 1937, in Cashmere, Wash. to Orwan and Barbara Simpson. Ron’s very early years were spent in the Cashmere area.

In 1943 the family moved to Anchorage, where Orwan, Ron’s father found work. In 1948 the family moved back to Cashmere, as Ron’s sister Sondra needed medical attention. The family resided there through Ron’s school years. He graduated from Cashmere High School, working at various jobs in the valley. He worked in the fruit industry, lumber company and then moved to the Seattle area working for Seattle Marine, then on to B&J Industrial.

His favorite area was Southeast Alaska. Ron’s parents had a fish buying scow the Nefco XI. It was anchored in Gedney Harbor and bought troll fish. Ron would spend his summer vacations on the scow with daughter Rhonda and his parents helping in the very busy seasons.

Ron met, and had many friends in Petersburg through his parents and business associates. In 1978 he met Patty Parr, the catch of his life. He retired from B&J after 16 years and moved to Petersburg to be with his biggest catch.

Ron worked at several different jobs. He worked for Icicle Seafoods and the City of Petersburg (Water and Treatment plant). Ron’s last position was with AML as a commercial truck driver. He retired from AML after 12 years in 1999.

After retirement Ron and Patty spent some great years together doing things he loved to do; boating, fishing, hunting and traveling. They made trips to Australia, Mexico and covered most of the U.S. Ron was an avid reader and very knowledgeable on many topics.
