June 23, 1982 - 422,000 Alaskans who have lived in the State for at least 6 months, and who have already signed up for the State’s Permanent Fund Dividend program will be receiving a $1,000 check in the mail during the upcoming weeks.
The Alaska Department of Revenue began mailing checks out within moments after the Governor signed legislation that replaced the distribution plan that was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court last Monday, June 14.
June 18, 1992 - Alaska Marine Lines 40-foot dry container fleet will more than triple with the addition of 100 new 102-inch wide containers. Manufactured in Korea, the new 102 wide 40’s are currently beginning to arrive in Seattle and will be put into service immediately.
The 102-inch containers are the first of their kind to be used to increase efficiency.
June 6, 2002 - Superintendent Mary Francis has been chosen as the Executive Director of the Alaska Council of School Administrators, or ACSA, in Juneau.
The ACSA is an administrative organization which coordinates efforts of superintendents, principals, and school business managers.
Francis has been with the Petersburg school district for twelve years. “This year’s graduating class was going into first grade when I got here.” At the recent PHS commencement, she said, “I looked at those kids and thought, I can’t believe they’re graduating.”
