Martha Marie John-Jackson, 86

 


Martha Marie John-Jackson, 86 was promoted to glory on June 25, 2012 at the Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 19, 1926 to Charlie and Katherine Brown John in Angoon, Alaska. Martha moved to Kake from Angoon in 1943 with her niece Sylvia Bell, where she met and later married Royal Jackson. Martha worked at Kerberger General Store and Keku Cannery, she was also well known for her dry-fish, popcorn balls and yummy popsicles. Martha was a strong believer in Christ, and even in her needy handicap years, she never ceased to pray for people.

Martha loved her family and family gatherings very much. She appreciated her best friend Rebecca Rose, niece Gerri Johnson, friends Bunny James, Lynn Paul and Rosie Fay for spending time with her and her caregivers Linnea Friday-Arreola, Carrie Duncan and Lori Moore, as well as her children that cared for her during her time of illness, Janet Sheldon, Royal Jackson Jr., Kathy Friday and the support by the rest of her children; and Lori Trout, Marcia Aceveda, and Dr. Kurata from the Kake Clinic. She also appreciated her nephew, Jerry Bennett Sr., for all the times he prayed with her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Katherine John of Angoon; husband Royal Jackson Sr.; brothers William John, Walter John, Peter John, David (Lillian) John, Peter John Sr. and Ronald John Sr.; sisters Annie Bell and Mary B. Johnson; son Peter Guerrero; daughters Bonita and Lillian Guerrero and Tina Marie Jackson; grandchildren Brandon Jackson, Leonard Skeek Jr. and Thelma Jane Grant; and niece Sylvia Skeek.

She is survived by her sister Alice John Bennett; her six children Kathy (David) Friday, Darlene Billingsley, Janet (Irving) Sheldon, Charlene Jackson and Royal Jackson Jr. and adopted sons Butch Williams and Tom Crane; 21 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services were held in Kake and Juneau the last week of June.
