The Wild Celery art gallery hosted well known local artist Janine Gibbons for an artist’s reception on Friday evening. Gibbons now resides in Durango, Colorado with her husband and two children. This year she completed a large wood carving based piece of public art on display at the John F. Reed Library in Durango, and she expressed a desire to contribute artwork to new Petersburg Public Library once open. Around Southeast, she is well recognized for her jewelry, but in Friday’s exhibit she had a diverse array of works on hand, including wood carvings, block and screen prints, paintings on wood, canvas and tile, along with new jewelry. Gibbons was optimistic that a Petersburg exhibition of her art could become an annual homecoming tradition.
