Candidates needed to fill positions in Petersburg

 


25 Elected positions will expire this year and will be voted on at the regular municipal election Oct. 2.

There are three positions of the Petersburg City Council held by Susan Flint, Nancy Strand and John Jensen that are up for grabs in October.

Two positions on the School Board held by Jim Schwartz and Sarah Holmgrain, which are three year terms are open for candidates.

The Petersburg Hospital Board has three positions held by Timothy Koeneman and Jeanette Ness which are three year terms and Rocia Tejera will give up a one year term, that can be found on the October ballot.

The Planning Commission has two vacant positions, one with a one year term and the other holds a two year term. In addition to the vacant positions, the two, three year seats held by Otis Marsh and Ronn Buschmann will also be on the ballot.

The Library Advisory Board which includes three, three year terms, held by Mary Ellen Anderson, Karen Quitsland and Marilyn Menish-Meucci will also expire this year.

The Harbor and Ports Advisory Board includes two, three year terms held by Bob Martin and Kurt Wohlhueter which are up for grabs in October.

Two, three year terms held by Jim Engell and Stan Hjort of the Public Safety Advisory Board will expire and will be found on the ballot.

Positions that will expire on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board are two, three year terms held by Angel Worhatch and Summer Baxter.

The Utility Advisory Board has two vacant positions of two, two year terms and two, three year terms held by Charles Martinez and Rocky Flint.

The first day to file for City candidacy was July 24 and the last day to file is Aug. 21 at 5 p.m.

To be eligible to run for a city position a candidate must be a permanent resident of Petersburg for a year and registered to vote for at least 30 days with the exception of the School Board.

“We have only five candidates filed to run in the October election,” Petersburg City Clerk Kathy O'Rear said.

Nancy Strand will seek reelection for her City Council seat. Mary Ellen Anderson and Marilyn Menish-Meucci will be running for reelection to the Library Board. Bob Martin will seek reelection to the Harbor Board and Otis Marsh will run for his Planning Commission position.

“Encourage your friends or family members to run for office,” O'Rear said.
