Cross Country Girls take 2nd in Craig

The Viking Cross Country team traveled to Craig over the weekend where the girls finished in second place.

Petersburg's girls came in behind Ketchikan in this small meet of eight teams consisting of 33 girls and 42 boys.

“The girls are running consistently well,” Head Coach Jo Ann Day said. “Every week they are working hard and it really shows in their running times and team placement.”

Grace Weller finished second with a time of 21:26. The 10th, 11th and 12th positions were brought in by Robyn Schwartz at 23:03, Fran Abbott with 23:13, Kylie Wallace with a time of 23:15 and Stephanie Pfundt bringing in 19th place with the time of 24:59.

“The boys had a great race as well,” Day said. “Mizani Rawhini ran his first race and placed well and Cole Somerville and Tucker Hagerman are battling it out on the course and running well together.”

Rawhini brought in the top spot for the Viking boys with 14th place and a time of 19:33. Hagerman and Somerville placed 19th and 20th with times of 19:59 and 20:01. Kyle Hagerman finished 31st with a time of 22:28 and Gus Petersen finished for the Vikings in 38th place and a time of 29:07.

“Overall the team is really working hard together,” Day stated. “They are getting stronger, more confident and they are looking forward to the next race.”

The Vikings will travel to Ketchikan Saturday, Sept. 15 for their next meet.
