Cross-Country girls head to regional competition
The Petersburg Cross-Country team traveled to Ketchikan for the weekend and the girls brought home second place.
On the girls side, Grace Weller finished third overall and second in 3A competition with a time of 20:33; Fran Abbott finished 11th with a time of 23:03; Kylie Wallace came in 14thin 23:16; Stephanie Pfundt came to the finish in 27th with a time of 25:11 and Nicole Peterson finished 29th in 25:23.
“All the girls are running very consistently and are ready for regional competition,” Head Coach Jo Ann Day said. “We were missing Robyn Schwartz this week, and we are looking for everyone to be healthy and ready to run Saturday in Juneau.”
For the boys Mizani Rawhani finished with a time of 19:27; Cole Somerville came in at 19:45; Tucker Hagerman finished in 19:53; Kyle Hagerman came in with a time of 21:56 and Stuart Medalen had a time of 24:32.
“Top finisher was Rawhini at 30th in 3A. Somerville also had a good race coming in 34th with T. Hagerman right behind him at 35th,” Day stated. “K. Hagerman is running well every week.”
Day explained that the Vikings had some tough competition this week between Mt. Edgecombe, Petersburg and Haines.
Mt. Edgecombe outscored Petersburg 89 to 106 with Haines right behind at 126. The girls, as a team, finished second in 3A and fifth overall.
