The Petersburg Road Improvement project continues and SECON Project Superintendent Bryce Kidd and Dowl HKM Project Engineer Matt McGuan held a meeting to let the public know how the project is progressing.

As of Thursday, Oct. 4, all Dolphin Street storm drain pipes and storm drain structures have been installed. The sanitary sewer manhole in the intersection of Nordic Drive and Dolphin Street has been repaired. Six inch minus shot rock has been installed on Dolphin Street east and west and D-1 base course has been placed and rough graded on Dolphin west.

“We have also started the D-1 base course placement on Dolphin Street east,” McGuan stated.

Over the next two weeks several more items on the project checklist will be eliminated.

“We haven’t completely updated the project website,” McGuan said. “The website and a project web cam should be up and running by the end of next week. There are some technical/IT connections that have to be made before the web cam is operational.”

During this time the installation of storm drain pipe and structures on Nordic Drive will be completed along with the removal of pavement from Nordic.

The sewer main repair at the Nordic Drive and Dolphin Street intersection will be finished. The sidewalk on Nordic Drive will be removed and the curb and gutter on Dolphin Street east and west will be prepped and placed.

“The storm drain pipe and structure on Nordic Drive should be done in the next two weeks,” Kidd said. “We will begin the curb and gutter Tuesday.”

Petersburg Public Works Director Karl Hagerman raised questions regarding complaints and traffic issues with the construction.

“Our office always has an open door to the public,” Kidd said. “We have not received any complaints that could not be resolved and most of the feedback we have gotten has been positive.”

Kidd also explained that the public is generally following the detour and one-way signs.

“The southbound lane on Nordic Drive is closed at Dolphin Street and drivers are detoured onto First Street around the construction area,” McGuan said. “The parking area on West Dolphin Street is accessible now for stores in that area as well.”

Kidd said that the project is about five days behind the original baseline schedule at this point.

“If the good weather continues, we should be able to make up a couple of days,” Kidd stated. “The winter shutdown will likely happen the week of Nov. 13.”

The time and date of the progress meetings have been changed to noon every other Tuesday with the next meeting taking place noon, Tuesday, Oct. 16.
