Community invited to “Lets Talk Petersburg”

“Lets Talk Petersburg” invites the community to an open forum from 6:15-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Sons of Norway Hall.

Nicole McMurren of the Petersburg Community Foundation and Jessica Ieremia of the Petersburg Public Library will host, as a part of Lets Talk Petersburg, a round table event to discuss issues in the community that may need help.

“We have been meeting as a small group since March,” McMurren said. “We are hoping to take this to a higher level and get community support.”

Lets Talk Petersburg is a group of individuals who have taken to time to learn more about communication.

“We are a community that really celebrates the concept of tradition and hard work,” McMurren stated. “Because we are such a tight-knit community, it makes it difficult to talk about some issues, we are all connected in some way.”

The open forum has been put into place in order to promote civic dialogue and bring the entire community together for meaningful conversation. “We want to create a comfortable environment to have uncomfortable conversation,” McMurrin said.

“No one is an expert,” Ieremia said. “We have such a diverse group of people with different viewpoints, there is no way we can leave this event without some direction.”

Representing the Petersburg Community Foundation, McMurren is hoping this event will also give the foundation direction to put money into the community.

She also explained that the foundation strengthens the community through effective philanthropy and they provide grants to local entities in the area to promote promise in the community.

Childcare will be provided from 6-9 p.m. at Petersburg Children’s Center and food will be provided as well.

“Come and join us for our first of hopefully many community forums,” McMurren stated. “We come together to make the community better.”
