First ordinances of the Petersburg Borough are approved

The newly formed Petersburg Borough Assembly approved, for a first reading, the first three ordinances to be put in place.

Ordinance #2013-1 is an ordinance providing for an area wide sales tax in the amount of six percent throughout the Petersburg Borough.

The Petersburg Borough Charter designates that sales and use taxes can be levied on an area wide basis.

Ordinance #2013-2 provides for an area wide transient room tax in the amount of four percent throughout the Petersburg Borough and Ordinance #2013-3 provides for the installation of elected officers and appointments to vacancies in elected offices of the Petersburg Borough.

The Borough Charter requires that the borough assembly, by ordinance, establish procedures for filling the vacancies in the office of assembly member or mayor.

“These ordinances are being read for the first time,” Petersburg Borough Mayor Mark Jensen stated. “The second reading will include a public hearing and the ordinances will not take effect until April 1, 2013 if approved for the third and final reading.”
