Ocean Beauty repairs are well underway

A look at the pilings being reconstructed at Ocean Beauty.

Repairs to the Ocean Beauty Seafoods processing plant are almost complete and the plant will be up and running again for the 2013 season after the Alaska Marine Highway M/V Matanuska ran into the Ocean Beauty Seafoods plant in May of 2012 and damaged the facility enough to close processing for the season.

“The work is almost 100 percent complete and we are pleased with the way the repair process has gone,” Ocean Beauty Vice President of Marketing Tom Sunderland said. “The floors, walls and some pilings had to be replaced and some damage was done to the crane but we were lucky the ferry missed the ammonia storage.”

“We will be open and running at full capacity this season,” Sunderland stated. “This is great news and we are excited about the prospects for this season.”

The repair work to the facility has been done by Tamico, which was used for the dock work and Alpine Construction completed the structural work for the building.

“We chose these two companies because they are good at what they do and they are local,” Sunderland stated. “We thought it was important to keep the work and the jobs local to Petersburg.”
