Still seeking letters of interest for vacant positions

The Petersburg Borough continues to seek letters of interest from qualified residents to fill vacancies in elected offices until the first regular borough election, set for October 2014.

All letters of interest should be submitted to the Mayor or Clerk no later than 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 14 for consideration at the Feb. 19 Assembly meeting. Anyone appointed to an elected seat will be required to file a Public Officials Financial Disclosure Statement, POFDS, within 30 days of taking office.

Seats to be filled are two vacancies on the Assembly, three vacancies on the Hospital Board and seven vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Letters have been received from Cindi Lagoudakis; Jeigh Stanton Gregor and Gerald S. Laubhan for the Assembly positions; Kristine Kissinger for the Hospital Board and David Kensinger, Susan Thomason, Dona Malhoit Laubhan and Ronn Buschmann for the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Land Selection Committee is also seeking letters from interested parties.

The Borough will receive an estimated 1,700 acres from the State of Alaska that can be used as the Borough determines. Letters have already been received from Sam Bunge, Rick Braun, Jim Stromdahl, Ronn Buschmann and Liz Cabrera for this committee.

There has also been a declaration of vacancy on the Petersburg Economic Development Council. The resident member-at-large position for this council has been vacated. This is an Assembly appointment with a three-year term. Letters should be sent to the Mayor or Clerk for consideration.
