Woman admits being in country illegally


JUNEAU (AP) — A Mexican woman has admitted being in the country illegally.

The Juneau Empire reports that 44-year-old Yolanda Perez-Orozco pleaded guilty on Friday. She had been deported from the United States twice before but was caught living and working in Southeast Alaska.

Perez-Orozco worked as a restaurant manager in Petersburg. Her attorney says a local police officer suspected she wasn't a citizen and investigated.

A federal grand jury indicted Perez-Orozco in January on one count of re-entry after deportation, a federal crime that can carry up to 20 years in prison. She told the...
