Papa Bear's Pizza is named Business of the Year

Scott Hurtt, owner of Papa Bear’s Pizza, this year’s winner of Business of the Year stepped to the microphone to say just how much Petersburg means to him.

Each year, the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce honors a business and this year, Papa Bear's Pizza was awarded Business of the Year.

"Papa Bear's Pizza was nominated for its friendly atmosphere and new location," Chamber of Commerce Banquet emcee Donnie Hayes said. "They have a friendly staff and are constantly donating to the community."

One of the nominations said that they may not be huge but they are a wonderful small business trying to improve every day.

Carolyn Hurtt, co-owner of Papa Bear’s Pizza, holds their award for Business of the Year at the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Banquet Saturday evening.

"They work hard to make our visitors feel welcome here," Hayes read. "Papa Bear's has a strong commitment to the community. They have generously given to breast cancer awareness and to the Northern Night Theater by giving a percentage of the money they make."

Hayes also expressed gratitude to Papa Bear's Pizza for their contribution to the Breakfast with Santa every year.

"They have always been quick to provide pizza for little league, high school baseball teams and they have also been known to stay open late for visiting sports teams to be able to get a meal," Hayes stated. "They are a hub for tourist and share local knowledge of Petersburg and the history."

Papa Bear's owner, Scott Hurtt stated that his wife, Carolyn has been in Petersburg for 30 years and he is going on 17 years in the community.

"We have our family here and work hard every day to keep the community strong," Hurtt said. "We invest a lot in you and we love doing it."
