60 apply for Police Chief position

The borough manager reports that 60 persons have applied for the Chief of Police position. Manager Steve Giesbrecht said Wednesday the borough’s consultant has advised him by email that six Alaskans have submitted applications.

Richard Fursman told Giesbrecht his firm will conduct video interviews with the top 18 candidates and narrow the search down to three candidates to be brought to Petersburg with their spouses for face to face interviews on the weekend of April 27.

Giesbrecht said he hopes to offer an employment contract to the finalist by May 1 and have them on the job by June or July.

The Chief of Police position is being offered at a salary range of $70,000 - 95,000 plus benefits with relocation expenses of up to $20,000.

Police Chief Jim Agner and his wife Sgt. Heidi Agner will both retire on April 28 and relocate to Montana. Agner has worked for the city for 19 years.
