Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow stops the Humane Association's flamingos as they are carried to their next destination by Junior Girl Scouts (from left) Ruby Massin, Julie Olsen, McKell Heppe-Worthington, Annie Christensen and Jaden Perry.

Flocks of flamingos have landed in various yards around Petersburg and who knows which yard they will be in next.

The Petersburg Humane Association, along with the Petersburg Junior Girl Scouts, have been busy landing flamingos for a good cause.

Throughout the month, the bright pink birds can be found all around Petersburg for a donation to the PHA.

“This is the first year we have tried this,” PHA Director Merrily Jones said. “By the second day they were in rotation we had about 20 spots filled.”

Each day the Petersburg Junior Girl Scouts land the flamingos in another yard and will continue until the end of the month.

“We have ordered another flock and hope to have them in about a week,” Jones stated. “We have had a great response to this program.”

A yard can be flocked with flamingos for a donation of $10 to PHA and the buyer can specify the yard where the flock will spend the day. If a flock is resting in your yard and you don't want them there a bribe can be donated of at least $10 to have them removed or for another $10 they can be sent to someone else's yard. Anti-flamingo insurance can be purchased for a donation of $15.

“Get them now to enjoy,” Jones said. “At the end of the month they will fly away until next year.”
