Lady Viking runners place third in Ketchikan meet

The Petersburg Viking runners traveled to Ketchikan for the first track meet of the season and the girls came home with third place and the boys placed fourth in Saturday's competition.

For the boys, senior Viking Mizani Rawhani came in first place in the 110 meter hurdles, seventh in the 100 meter dash and third in the 300 meter hurdles; Kaleb Simbahon placed 18th in the shot put and eighth in the triple jump; Nels Evens placed 11th in the 3,200 meter run and 18th in the 800 meter run; Ben Zarlengo brought in fifth place in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles; P.K. Bunyi placed eighth in the 200 meter dash and 13th in the 100 meter dash; and Andrew Mathisen came in seventh place in the 400 meter dash and 14th in the 200 meter dash.

The ladies finished Friday's competition in third place as Abigail Taylor came in second place in the triple jump, third in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles; Grace Weller brought in first in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the 3,200 meter run, seventh in the 400 meter dash and third in the 300 meter hurdles; Diane Murph brought home fourth place in the 3,200 meter run; Stephanie Pfundt came in 10th in the 3,200 meter run and 11th in the 800 meter run; and Robyn Schwartz finished with a fifth place in the 400 meter dash and fourth in the 800 meter run.

Saturday’s competition found the boys in fourth place as Simbahon placed 10th in the long jump and 12th in the discus throw; Evens brought in 16th in the 1,600 meter run and 18th in the 800 meter run; Rawhani finished second in the 110 meter hurdles, third in the 300 meter hurdles and eighth in the 100 meter dash; Zarlengo brought home fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles and 15th in the discus throw; Bunyi came in eighth in the 800 meter run and 13th in the 100 meter dash; and Mathisen finished seventh in the long jump, seventh in the 400 meter dash and 14th in the 800 meter run.

The Lady Vikings finished Saturday in third place with Taylor coming in third in the 300 meter hurdles and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles; Weller came in first in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the 300 meter hurdles and seventh in the 400 meter dash; Murph finished sixth in the 800 meter run and third in the 1,600 meter run; Pfundt brought home 11th in the 800 meter run and 10th in the 1,600 meter run; Schwartz came in fourth in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and 1,600 meter run; and Jessica Franklin finished with 16th place in the discus throw.

The boys 4 by 100 meter relay found the Vikings in third place with the team of Mathisen, Zarlengo, Bunyi and Rawhani and the girls finished second in the 4 by 400 meter relay with the team of Schwartz, Murph, Taylor and Pfundt.
