Assembly awards bid to local construction company

The Petersburg Borough Assembly awarded a bid for the Wastewater Pump Station 5 Replacement Project to Rock-n-Road Construction for an amount not to exceed $662,757.

“There was only one bid for this project,” Petersburg Borough Vice Mayor Sue Flint said. “And this bid exceeded both the engineer's estimate and the construction funding available.”

Due to the time sensitive nature of the project and the tight funding budget, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation negotiated a contract price with the lone bidder, Rock-n-Road Construction.

“The construction estimate at the time of bid was $613,000,” Public Works Director Karl Hagerman stated. “The range given was $550,000 to $650,000 and it came in over $750,000 so this came in much better.”

The price was negotiated between Petersburg Public Works, Rock-n-Road and other sub-contractors for the project.

“They did a great job of getting this price down,” Petersburg Borough Manager Steve Giesbrecht stated. “This makes it possible to keep this project on time.”
