Darkness downtown due to construction

Due to the need to relocate electrical conduit in the downtown area, there may be some street lights that will not be operational.

“We are working with Public Works in order to have some temporary lighting brought in,” Petersburg Borough Manager Steve Giesbrecht said. “We don't want to be without light in that area.”

Giesbrecht stated in his regular report that Petersburg Parks and Recreation is working with the Petersburg High School Baseball team to offer the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition Saturday, May 11.

Also during his report, Giesbrecht stated that property assessments have been sent out and appeals for these will be due by the end of April.

“The asphalt shingle roof is almost complete on the new library,” Giesbrecht reported. “The exterior siding is under way and the project is scheduled for substantial completion by mid-June to the beginning of July and opening approximately the first of August.”

PND, Western Dock and Bridge along with sub-contractors, Petersburg Public Works Director Karl Hagerman and Petersburg Harbormaster Glorianne Wollen met to discuss pre-construction for the North Harbor Project.

“The Middle and South Harbors are full at this time,” Giesbrecht stated. “Harbor staff are moving boats around as quickly as possible, but it is getting more difficult.”

The Landfill Slope Stabilization Project, which is part of the North Harbor Project, will be open for bids on Tuesday, May 7 and a pre-bid meeting will be held Tuesday, April 23.

“This is regarding the direct spoils from the North Harbor,” Giesbrecht stated. “We have to have a place for them and we are using them to fill in some holes in the landfill.”
