Despite the rain and cold, the 55th Little Norway Festival was well attended and quite a success.
There was a break in the rain for the Annual Festival Parade. The Style Show and Luncheon, the Mitkof Mummers Musical Melodrama, “Way Out West in a Dress or Life's a Hurdle When You're Wearing a Girdle,” the Little Norway Festival Pageant, art receptions and all of the various events that were on the agenda were well attended.
The Clausen Memorial Museum saw hundreds of visitors for the festival and the winners of the Little Norway Art Show have been announced.
Petersburg Parks and Recreation sponsored the Lop the Loop 7K run Saturday morning and their were 63 participants for this event. For the top males overall, first place went to Stian Stensland, Casey Knight followed in second with Joe Viechnicki coming in third. For the top women over all, Maria Stensland finished in first place followed by Diane Murph in second place and Julie Schonberg finishing third. In the men's 14 and under category, Nathaniel Lenhard finished first, followed by Ben Higgins in Second and Donnie Hayes bringing in third. In the men's 15 to 29 category Terry German finished in first, followed by Logan Stolpe in second and David Galaktinoff finished in third. In the men's 30 to 39 category, Erick Hulebak finished first, followed by James Disch in second and Mark VanWaes brought in third place. in the men's 40 to 49 category, Matt Lenhard finished first, followed by Rick Brock in second and Karl Hagerman finished in third place. Doug Reimer finished first in the men's 50 to 59 category and in the 60 and over Bob Lane finished first with the fire department coming in second.
For the women's 14 and under category, Avery Skeek finished first, followed by Erin Pfundt in second and Eva Lenhard in third. For the women's 15 to 29 category, Stephanie Pfundt finished in first place, followed by Cozy Sipper in second and Erika Landgren bringing in third. In the women's 30 to 39 category, Brandy Geiger finished first, followed by Rebecca Anderson in second and Rikki McKay in third. In the women's 40 to 49 category, Ginger Evans finished first, followed by Jo Ann Day in second and Theresa Winther in third place. For the women's 40 to 59 category Sharon Hunter finished first with Mary Clemens bringing in second and Marlene Cushing finished first in the 60 and over category followed by Karla Gaither in second.
The Visitor's Choice award went to Suzanne Ashe for her photograph “One People's Canoe Society,” second place went to Don Cornelius for his oil painting “Maternal Instinct,” and third place went to Sally Stromberg for her oil painting “Tangle.”
At the Little Norway Festival Pageant, Jill Williams was named the 2013 Norwegian American award winner and was presented a rosemaled trunk for her years of service and community involvement.
