Local student wins Justice For All art contest

Magistrate Desi Burrell alongside Justis For All Contest winner Maia Cowan and runner up Asa Parker.

In celebration of Law Day, May 1, the Alaska Supreme Court sponsored the Justice For All Contest. Petersburg Elementary student, Maia Cowan won first place in the kindergarten to fourth grade category out of 90 entries across the state of Alaska.

Students were asked to submit art and a statement on the theme; Fairness, Diversity and Equality.

“Our justice system depends on these traits to be successful,” Petersburg Magistrate Desiree Burrell said. “It is refreshing to see how our kids understand this theme in their artwork.”
