The Alaska Department of Transportation estimates Ocean Beauty’s insurance claim to be between $2.5 to $4 million.
ADOT is still waiting to hear from Ocean Beauty Seafood’s insurance carrier regarding the final cost of dock repairs and loss of business after the Alaska Marine Highway System’s Matanuska ferry crashed into Ocean Beauty’s dock last summer on May 10.
Ocean Beauty ceased fish processing last summer after the accident when its dock sustained damage. A hydraulic crane was crushed along with damage to pilings and office walls.
Scott Jordan, Division of Risk Management for ADOT, said the state will evaluate the insurance company’s final claim before making payment. But he expected final numbers by this time.
“I don’t know what the hold up is,” Jordan said. “Ocean Beauty Seafoods is done, their interest has been recovered. I don’t know when their insurance company will submit that claim.”
Jordan said his department has been kept in the loop, evaluating the claim as it has progressed. He estimates dock repairs to have been between $500,000 to $1 million and loss of business between $2 to $3 million.
Calls to Ocean Beauty went unreturned.
