Emergency responders rescued a woman trapped in a wrecked SUV on Three Lakes Loop Road last Sunday evening
Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Dave Berg said they received the dispatch call around 5 p.m. August 11. He said they found the vehicle in a steep embankment, the front passenger side door crumpled against a tree, about three miles down the south end of the road. Two other passengers, both males, were able to exit the vehicle.
“We were able to block the car using struts to stabilize it and anchored the vehicle to our truck on the road and then we started to cut apart the car,” Berg said.
Responders used the jaws-of-life to cut off the driver’s door and part of the doorframe on the passenger side.
Berg said they loaded the female onto a backboard and an ambulance transported her and another male passenger to the Petersburg Medical Center.
“Their injuries were relatively minor compared to what we’ve seen with somebody trapped in a vehicle like that,” Berg said. “It could have been a lot worse.”
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
