Concrete fix

SECON construction workers are making repairs to five sections of the new downtown streets, after cracks developed in the recently poured roadway. Matt McGuan, DOT-PF project engineer said the cracks were likely caused when the section cuts were not made soon enough. “Concrete cracks on its own,” McGuan said, if the joint cuts aren’t made in time. Three sections on Nordic Drive and two sections on Excel Street were under repair this week. McGuan guessed the repairs could cost the contractor $1,000 each. SECON will have the project completed by the end of August, two months ahead of schedule. The paint striping crew will arrive next week and sealant will be placed on the colored crosswalk sections as well. McGuan said the new streets have a design-life of 30 years.
