Honor Music Fest at PHS

Southeast Honor Choir, conducted by Brian Winnie, performing Tuesday night in Petersburg High School’s gym.

Last weekend Petersburg hosted the Southeast Honor Music Festival. About 120 of the best music students from Craig, Haines, Hoonah, Juneau-Douglas, Ketchikan, Klawock, Mt. Edgecumbe. Sitka, Thunder Mountain and Wrangell arrived on Saturday and began several exhaustive days of rehearsal under the expert direction of Guest Honor Choir Conductor Brian Winnie from the University of Washington and Guest Honor Band Conductor Dr. Christopher Bianco from Western Washington University.

The public heard the fruits of their intensive labor during a performance on Tuesday night when each presented four outstanding pieces of music in the High School Gym.

Those representing Petersburg in the Honor Choir were: Hannah Pfundt, Soprano I; Stephanie Pfundt, Fran Abbott, Robyn Schwartz, all Soprano II; Evan Marsh, Bass I; Ben Higgins and Kaleb Simbahon, both Tenor II; and Nels Evens, Bass II.

Those chosen for the Honor Band were: Abigail Taylor, Flute; Nathaniel Lenhard, Trombone; and Skipper Erickson, Euphonium.
