Girl Scout reaches gold

At a a ceremony on October 26th, Linda Slaght, the Girl Scout Community Coordinator, awarded Diane Murph the Girl Scout Gold Award Pin and certificate signed by the CEO of Girl Scouting, Anna Maria Chávez.

For the first time in over 44 years a Petersburg Girl Scout has earned the prestigious Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

Of the 5,500 Girl Scouts in Alaska, six girls last year earned the Girl Scout Gold Award.

In 2012, as an Ambassador Girl Scout, Diane Murph started her 7 step journey to the Girl Scout Gold Award. This award challenges the scout to change the world-or at least her corner of it.

The community issue Diane chose to work on was the declining state of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in the United States.
