Billy Ware was one of first place finishers at the Juneau invitational.
Eight Petersburg Viking wrestlers placed at the Pilot Invitational in Juneau the weekend before last.
DJ Toyomura, John Brooks and Billy Ware took first place in their respective weight classes.
Buddy Stelmach and Isaiah May took second. Logan Turcott and Matt Gudel took third. Bret Martinsen took fourth.
Petersburg placed second overall in the tournament.
"The team really pulled together," said assistant coach Ed May. "We're, at this point, hitting our stride. Hopefully we'll be getting near the peak at regionals in Sitka."
May said this season the young wrestling team has bonded well during the season.
"They're working not only well as individuals but also as a team," May said.
The Vikings took first place in 3A teams and third overall at a tournament in Ketchikan in October.
May said they hope to take between eight to ten kids to the state tournament in Anchorage in December. The kids have to pay their own way to the tournament and May said anyone interested in donating travel funds to Viking wrestlers should contact the high school.
