The Vikings basketball squad nailed down two big wins against the Wrangell Wolves last weekend.

The Vikings defeated the Wolves 47-35 Friday night and again 52-32 on Saturday night.

Head Coach Rick Brock said his squad did well defensively against the Wolves during Friday night's game but needed to do a better job of setting the offensive pace of the game.

"There were times in the game where we had opportunities to take a 10 or 11 point lead and stretch it out to 15 or 16, which is real important against Wrangell," Brock said. "We weren't successful in doing that. On the defensive end we did a very nice job of controlling their scorers and making them work for their points."

Michael Brock scored 12 points and Tristan Welton and Colby Bell each scored seven points.

Coach Brock said his team did a much better job of setting that pace and being patient offensively during Saturday's game.

"Both teams played better on Saturday so it was important for us to get good looks at the basket," Brock said.

Tristan Welton led the boards with 16 points. Michael Brock scored eight and Jared Volk scored seven.

Brock said the Vikings played exceptionally well as a team Saturday-a theme that has carried over throughout the season. He cited Kayin McCay and Jared Volk as key contributors Saturday.

"It's not the best individuals, it's the best team that has a chance to be successful," Brock said. "We're getting contributions from different people every night and that's a big key for us and I really felt that was true with Kayin and Jared's performance."

Brock said the enthusiasm and support given by the community over the weekend created a great atmosphere for his team to play in.

The Vikings face off against Ketchikan tonight and head to Sitka to play in conference games next weekend.
