Lady Vikings win first Regional tournament game
The Lady Vikings beat the Sitka Wolves during the first game of the Regional Tournament in Sitka yesterday.
Head Coach Dino Brock said his squad fell behind for a short time in the beginning of the game but maintained the lead throughout the bulk of the contest.
“It was a really physical game,” Brock said. “We battled inside and did a nice job with defensive rebounds.”
Kyla Willis pulled down nine defensive rebounds.
The Lady Vikings led 20-10 at the half, maintained the momentum and led 30-15 at the end of the third.
The Wolves snapped back in the fourth quarter though and came within four points of a tie game.
The Wolves forced several turnovers and high scorer Kylie Wallace got into foul trouble and had to be benched.
“They made a nice run and we had to hold on,” Brock said.
The Lady Vikings held the lead, winning 38-34.
Wallace scored 13 points, Shalie Dahl put nine on the board and Willis scored eight points.
The Lady Vikings face Mt. Edgecumbe Thursday.
