Obituary, Frances H. Hubbard, 87

 


Frances H. Hubbard, age 87, went gently to be with her Lord and Savior on March 16, 2014 while at home in Yakima, Wash. under hospice care.

She was born July 15, 1926 in Wilbur, Ore. to Benjamin B. and F. Helen (Corl) Irving. She married Thomas H. Hubbard on February 16, 1946 in Roseburg, Ore.

After living in Anacortes and Walla Walla, Wash., Frances and Thomas moved back to Roseburg, Ore. in 1950 where their seven children were born. In 1967, Frances moved with her husband and children to Petersburg, Alaska where they lived and worked until 1989. She and her husband then left Alaska, relocating to Yakima, Wash.

A descendent of pioneers who settled the Oregon Territory, she was a member of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington.

While living in Yakima, she worked as a bookkeeper at Valley Cycling and Fitness, and was involved in the Business and Professional Women's Club, continuing a membership she began in Alaska.

She taught Sunday School and Bible School for years, frequently serving as church treasurer during her lifelong involvement in church wherever she lived. At the time of her death, she was active in Tieton Drive Bible Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen Irving; husband Thomas Hubbard; brothers Benny, Ray and Ralph Irving; sister Catherine Farrell; and grandson Jeremy Hubbard.

She is survived by seven children: Ruth (Mark) Van Kommer, Yakima, Wash.; Beth (Eugene) Nowak, Bunker Hill W. Va.; Thora (David) Broyles, West Plains, Mo.; Jim (Rhonda) Hubbard, Seward, Alaska; Ben (Laura) Hubbard, Kelso, Wash.; Joe (Johanna) Hubbard, Ketchikan, Alaska; and Miriam Hubbard, Yakima. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Marcus and Gerrit Van Kommer; Marie Henwood; Daniel, Erik and Philip Nowak; Jonathan and Jennifer Broyles; Matthew, Scott, Josiah, Douglas, Johannes, and Clarissa Hubbard; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Mary Melcher, Peabody, Mass.

A memorial service is scheduled for May 3, 2014 at 1 pm at Tieton Drive Bible Chapel, 4305 Tieton Drive, Yakima, Wash.
