Pilot wins four awards during this year's press club conference
Past and present Petersburg Pilot staff took home awards from the Alaska Press Club Conference held last weekend in Anchorage.
Former Pilot employee Sarah Bessel won second place for the Best Scenic Photo all-media category for her image “Devil’s Thumb in the sun.”
Orin Pierson won third place for Best Sports News Story in the small print category for his story “Champion relay team sets new regional record.”
Kyle Clayton won first place for Best Short Feature in the small print category for his story “Local film producers compete in International 100-hour film race.”
Clayton also won third place for Best Government or Political Reporting in the small print category for his story “Borough assembly releases redacted memo.”
Previous KFSK reporter Matt Lichtenstein also won an award. Lichtenstein won third place for Best Business Reporting in the radio category for his story “Fishermen: lack of affordable health insurance a barrier to industry growth.”
More than 1,100 entries from news media outlets across Alaska, including print, radio and television, were submitted into the contest.
The Alaska Press Club holds a conference and awards ceremony every spring.
