Several board, assembly seat vacancies remain as filing deadline approaches

 


A week and a half remains for interested parties to file for candidacy to sit on the Petersburg Borough Assembly or serve as a member of multiple advisory boards.

The following is the status of positions as of Fri., August 8 according to Borough Clerk Kathy O'Rear:

Incumbent Jeigh Stanton Gregor will run for one of the 2-year terms for the Borough Assembly.

Three open positions on the Borough Assembly have not yet received candidate filings— two 3-year terms and one 2-year term. Assembly members Stanton Gregor, Kurt Wohlhueter, Bob Lynn, and Cindi Lagoudakis' terms are expiring.

James Demko will run for a 3-year term and Dona M. Malhiot-Laubhan a 2-year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The commission has seven vacancies to fill. No candidate has yet filed for the two remaining 3-year terms, one remaining 2-year term and the sole 1-year term.

Mike Bangs, Jeff Pfundt and Dave Thynes will each run for a 3-year term on the Harbors and Port Advisory Board. Glenn Reid, Jr. and Bob Dolan will run for a 2-year term on the advisory board.

The advisory board also has seven vacancies to fill. No candidate has yet filed for either of the two available 1-year terms.

Lizzie Thompson will run for a 3-year term on the Library Advisory Board. Barb Fish will run for a 2-year term and Chelsea Tremblay a 1-year term on the board.

The Library Board has seven vacancies to fill. Two 3-year terms, one 2-year term and one 1-year term have yet to be filed for.

Stan Hjort will run for a 3-year term on the Public Safety Advisory Board, and Jim Engell will run for a 1-year term.

The Public Safety Board has five vacancies to fill with one 3-year term and two 2-year terms not yet receiving a candidate filing.

There are three vacancies on the School Board and Hospital Board, respectively, and no candidate has yet filed for any of the available positions. The School Board has one 3-year term, one 2-year term and one 1-year term to be filled. The Hospital Board has two 3-year terms, one 2-year term and one 1-year term to be filled.

Those interested should file a Declaration of Candidacy form with the borough clerk as well as a Petition for Candidacy form signed by at least 25 voters of the borough. Forms can be obtained online at http://www.petersburgak.gov or at the borough office. The last day to file for candidacy is Tuesday, August 26 at 5 p.m.
