Larry Young of Reid Brothers sits at the controls of the log shovel while personnel from Reid Brothers, the Petersburg Indian Association (PIA) and the Petersburg Borough help place a new outhouse at Green's Camp last week. The top section being lifted into place weighs 26,000 pounds and the lower section 17,000. The project was primarily funded by the local Resource Advisory Committee (RAC), which paid for the cost of the outhouse, shipping and the crane lift, Assistant Public Works Director Chris Cotta said. PIA and the borough donated labor, equipment time and materials to excavate, backfill and finish the site. The new outhouse is the last item in the borough's multi-phase Green's Camp improvements project, Cotta said, and uses up the last of 2010 U.S. Forest Service (USFS) RAC grant funds. PIA, the borough, USFS and the Alaska Department of Natural Resources worked together to bring the last phase of the project to completion.
