Lois Hernandez

Lois Hernandez, 86 passed away on June 10, 2017 at the Petersburg Medical Center in Petersburg, Alaska 18 years to the day after the passing of her husband Raymond Hernandez.

Lois Helen Spinelli was born in Montclair, New Jersey on December 17, 1930 to Michael Spinelli, the son of Italian immigrants and Helen Carlson Spinelli, the daughter of Swedish immigrants. After graduating from Montclair High School in 1948, Lois attended Centenary Junior College, where she earned an Associates of Arts degree. She then attended the Barbezon School of Modeling in New York City. After a brief but interesting career as a model in the fashion district of New York, Lois met and married Raymond Allen Hernandez, a World War II veteran in 1952 and began devoting her time to raising a family.

Lois and Raymond along with their three children, Stuart, Donald, and Phyllis moved to Ocean City, New Jersey in 1962 and started the Allen Inspection Company which inspected homes and businesses for insurance companies throughout the South Jersey area. For the forty three years that Lois lived in Ocean City she was active in local politics and civic organizations. She also was an avid gardener who enjoyed long walks on the beaches.

In 2005, six years after the passing of her husband of 47 years, Lois moved to Petersburg to be closer to her sister Lynn, son Donald, daughter Phyllis and her five grandchildren.

She is survived by; sister, Lynn Burke of Petersburg; son Stuart Hernandez of Ocean City, son Donald (Andrea) Hernandez of Point Baker, Alaska; daughter Phyllis (Mike) Hernandez of Petersburg; grandchildren Eva (Victor) Rodriguez of Casa Grande, Arizona, Samantha (Rob) Kivisto of Petersburg, Carl Hernandez of Port Protection, Alaska, Clara Medalen of Petersburg, Stuart Medalen of Petersburg; and great grandchildren Sajjan White of Casa Grande and Asha Rodriguez of Casa Grande.

Donations may be given to the Petersburg Humane Association or the Ocean City Humane Society.
