Charges may be filed
in rollover accident
November 19, 2009.
The District Attorney’s office is investigating the rollover vehicle accident on Sandy Beach Road on November 9. Excessive speed and alcohol consumption appear to be factors in the crash, according to a release from the Petersburg Police Department.
Shortly before midnight PPD dispatch received two 911 calls, one from a person trapped inside an overturned car and a second from a person who walked away from the crash, apparently seeking help.
The fire department personnel used the Jaws of Life to extricate 26-year-old Petersburg resident Renee Lester from the overturned car. Both Lester and 22-year-old Jessica Ray, also a local resident, were transported by EMS to Petersburg Medical Center, according to police.
Both were treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
Police investigation indicates the 1992 Toyota Camry was southbound on Sandy Beach Road and failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the 1000 block.
