Boy Scouts pose with boxes of donated food they helped to collect. The Salvation Army collected about 700 pounds of food on Saturday in their annual canned food drive, according to Major Loni Upshaw. A group of about 40 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts helped collect the food donated by residents throughout the city and pack food into boxes. They were able to make and distribute 72 boxes to families in need this Thanksgiving. There was even food left over for the Christmas food drive. Thanksgiving boxes included all the necessities to make a Thanksgiving dinner, including a turkey, potatoes and stuffing mix. Local churches also donated turkeys and food for the boxes. "It takes a whole community to do this," said Upshaw.
