The Petersburg School Board voted during a July 31special session to repair a leaky boiler and update the 8-12 mathematics curriculum. Tye Petersen, Petersburg School’s Maintenance Director says he’s already capped several leaks in the tube where heated water flows but couldn’t maintain a tight seal in the latest repair. The Borough Assembly voted to award the gymnasium floor refinishing contract to Alaskan Industries based on a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Dept. Alaskan Industries is the company that has worked on the floor for the last 15 years, said Parks and Recreation Director Donn Hayes. The Petersburg School District Board approved a policy allowing home school students to participate in activities at the high school without being enrolled in classes. Karen Sue Flym, 68, died March 12, 2013 at her home in Homer, Alaska. Flyum was born September 18, 1944 in Tacoma, Wash. Petersburg High School senior, Krissa Davis, competed in the State Science Symposium in Fairbanks for her project entitled “Testing Organic Labeling Laws by the Presence of GMO's in Corn,” and took fifth place. For this fifth place finish, Davis qualified to attend the National Science Symposium in Dayton, Ohio.
