Area hunters brought in a bumper harvest this fall, with 112 moose reported at the end of the month-long 2016 season on Saturday. After nearly a year of planning, the volunteer committee headed by David Byrne has established a plan to distribute moose burger meat (from illegally shot moose) to non-profit agencies and food service providers in Petersburg. Under the proposed distribution protocol, Trooper Cody Litster will take the moose to Trading Union or Hammer and Wikan for butchering. On Saturday September 10, Petersburg Police Department arrested Joshua Hall Blewett, age 28 of Petersburg, for one count of Domestic Violence related Assault. Following Blewett's arrest, officers continued to investigate and subsequently served a search warrant at Blewett's residence. Police determined a female had been assaulted, kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and assaulted with a box cutter or utility knife. WRANGELL - Emergency assistance was dispatched from Wrangell early Sunday evening, after a private boat struck a log near Farm Island. WRANGELL – Area golfers raised close to $6,000 over the weekend during the annual Rally for Cancer Care and Blue Tees Tournament. Money raised from the two-part tournament go to support Wrangell Medical Center Foundation's cancer care fund, which in turn provides up to $1,000 per year to patients undergoing treatment for cancer-related illness.
