Don Nelson is the 2014 Norwegian American Award winner. Nelson was born in Petersburg and is a third generation descendent of Norwegian immigrants whose grandfather arrived with Peter Buschmann, the founder of Petersburg's first cannery. Nelson served during the Korean War in the Marine Corps. Nelson is civically engaged and has been actively involved in the fishing industry. In 2001, he published "The Story of Petersburg"-a book about the history of Petersburg and those who have lived here.
