Don Young sponsors federal medical marijuana legislation

 


JUNEAU (AP) — U.S. Rep. Don Young has introduced legislation that would provide federal recognition for states that allow medical marijuana.

According to a press release from Young's office, the legislation, also sponsored by Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee, would prevent federal prosecution of medical marijuana patients, doctors and businesses in states that allow medical marijuana. It would also allow Veterans Administration doctors to recommend medical marijuana to their patients.

The bill matches one introduced in the Senate earlier this month.
