Science Bowl bring home title for PHS

The PHS Sciences Bowl players fresh off the jet from competing in Seward last weekend. The teams Ocean Motion and Suspiciously Swanky Scyphozoans included Tucker Hagerman (left to right), Charlie Christensen, Gabe Torrez, Anders Christensen, Chauncy Sandhofer, Joey Giesbrecht, Julia Murph, Helen Martin and Marissa Nilsen.

Students from Petersburg High School's National Ocean Sciences Bowl team headed to Seward last weekend to compete against teams from around Alaska. The team is comprised of nine students who make up two squads, and they have been preparing for the event since the beginning of the school year. Their efforts paid off with a good team showing.

The competition is very much like a sporting event. The teams pick names, they have a team captain and the event has rounds and brackets. The event features a quiz bowl, basically a multiple choice game of science trivia on steroids, where students buzz...
