Oktoberfest celebrates 40 years of community

The yearly Rain Country Quilters quilt show featured 58 quilts. Kim Randrup's quilt "Bali Wedding Star" (number 47, shown top left) won first place. Carol Kandoll took second with her "Carolina Lily." The auction held in the High School Library netted $800 – a portion of which will be donated to the Petersburg Medical Center to support Medevac Kits offered to anyone leaving town with a medical emergency.

The community gym was bustling for the better part of Saturday as over 50 food, art and craft vendors set up booths and sold their wares at the 40th annual Oktoberfest Art Share.

The event is coordinated by the Muskeg Maleriers and this year Jean Curry, Sally Dwyer and Polly Koeneman were the lead organizers.

"It went well," Curry said. "It was busy almost the entire time."

Shoppers had access to everything from pottery and jewelry to beeswax candles and handcrafted textiles. As tradition goes, non-profit organizations also set up tables to raise funds and raise awareness of their services....
