PHS swim meet cancelled after contaminant worry

The pool will still host swim team timed trials and senior appreciation night if it is cleaned and reopened by Friday.

The scheduled swim meet in Petersburg this weekend was cancelled after a germ from human fecal matter was suspected to be in the community center pool.

"There are concerns regarding Cryptosporidium and the possibility that the pool could be infected," Elementary Principal Teri Toland said in an email addressed to families. "While there is no evidence to 100% confirm that, we are not sending students to swim for the rest of the week."

Cryptosporidium is a germ found in the fecal matter of a person who has been infected with Crypto. It can survive days in a pool even if it's chlorinated. Cr...
