The 19th annual Beat the Odds event offers residents the chance to walk or run in a 2.5 race against cancer this Saturday.

"Our mission is to bring awareness and education and support to those affected by cancer," said Michele Parker, chairperson for a volunteer committee that is hosting the event with help from the Petersburg Medical Center Foundation.

The proceeds of the event will go towards support groups and services for cancer patients, said Parker, who is a cancer survivor.
