Ruby Massin brings home state championship

Petersburg sophomore Ruby Massin pins Wasilla sophomore Kristina Gerasimyuk in the second round of their 125-pound final during the ASAA/FNBA Girls State Wrestling Championships in Anchorage on Saturday.

At the wrestling state tournament in Anchorage over the weekend, Petersburg's Ruby Massin won the girls state championship in the 125-pound weight class, which marks the first state championship in wrestling for Petersburg in eight years and the first won in the girls tournament.

Massin won all four of her matches by pin. The first three matches were won within the first round. In the final match, she was losing 0-9 to Wasilla's Kristina Gerasimyuk by the end of the first round. She was able to score two points in the second round, but so did Gerasimyuk.
