Petersburg Pilot -

Once, Petersburg was speculated to become the future skiing hotspot of all Alaska. In 1938, "Alaska Life - The Territorial Magazine" described Petersburg as "long the home of good skiers," and highlighted plans for a big ski invitational to be held by the jumping hill which had been reconstructed as a CCC project. Many Petersburg skiers learned to jump in Norway and imported their skills back to Alaska.
