Identifies bacteria found in fecal matter

The map above shows all six locations where the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation took water samples near Petersburg. Sites PE02 and PE03 tested above the mean concentration Alaska Water Quality Standard for fecal coliform.

Two sample sites in the waters around Petersburg tested above the Alaska Water Quality Standard (WQS) for fecal coliform, according to a preliminary marine water quality report on Alaska's ports and shipping lanes by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.

Water samples were taken at six locations in the Wrangell Narrows over the course of 30 days during the summer of 2020. While fecal coliform was identified at all six locations, mean concentrations of the bacteria was above the WQS at locations northeast of the North Boat Harbor and north of the South Boat Harbor in the Wran...
