Obituary: Mary Ann Olson, 77

Mary Olson

Mary Ann Olson, 77, passed away peacefully at the Olson family lake house in Stanwood, Washington on February 17, 2021.

She was born on December 1, 1943 in Anchorage, Alaska and moved to Petersburg, Alaska in 1952 with her mom, dad and two brothers. She was raised in Petersburg, went to PHS and was on the tumbling team.

She married the man of her dreams, Darryl Olson on March 10 1962 and added three daughters; Wanda, Diana and Helen to their family. She was a stay at home mom and Darryl's #1 deckhand. She fished a lot with Darryl and sometimes took the girls if the weather was decent.

She had the very first 1967 Mustang in town with a black exterior with red interior. No amount of begging would allow anyone but her behind the wheel.

She took care of everyone that needed help and people gravitated towards her because she was always kind, funny, she always made you feel special and was an excellent cook.

She had a beautiful singing voice and loved country western music (and Elvis) and knew most of the songs, word for word. You could find her singing and dancing along with the music while she was doing housework and didn't think she was being watched. She and Darryl loved to dance, rolling up the rugs at parties and getting everyone to join in, whether they were 8 or 80.

She loved to travel and between fisheries she and Darryl could be found in any part of the world. They always came home with outrageous stories and trinkets for the family.

Her mother, Marie Hansen and father, Ted Hasbrouck preceded her in death along with her brother Billy.

She is survived by her husband of "59" years, Darryl; daughters, Wanda, Diana (Colleen) and Helen (Carlos); grandchildren, Michael and Amber; great granddaughter, Freya; brothers, Terry (Kathy) and Teddy (Sue); sisters, Glenda (Kerry) and Theresa; step sisters, Leta, Tonya and Tammy and many more relatives and friends.

A memorial for Mary Ann will be announced at a later date.
